Kozhikode: Meet decides to expedite mobility hub
Minister appoints district collector as the nodal officer to study legal side, feasibility report by May.
Kozhikode: A meeting of officials and representatives of people held here on Thursday decided to expedite the proposed mobility hub for the city. Transport minister A.K. Saseendran said he had appointed the district collector as its nodal officer and he'll study its legal side. Local legislator A. Pradeep Kumar is the chairman of the working committee. He directed the district collector to submit a detailed feasibility report in a month.
Last year's budget had proposed mobility hubs here and in Alappuzha to ease the pressure on the city on the model of Vyttila in Kochi. “The city corporation has already submitted a master plan, but it needs some changes,” he said. “The collector and his team having representatives of various departments will resolve them. The location will be Malaparamba, as decided earlier." Collector U.V. Jose said it would be a strategically located facility where different modes of transport integrate.
"Road transport, water transport and the metro will converge here, and people can use the mode their choice and easily change from one to another," he said. "The project intends to promote the public transport system against the excessive use of private vehicles and thus reduce pollution.” The project expects to address the rising concerns over the shrinking parking space in the city, as it can comfortably accommodate over 4000 cars, 3000 motorcycles, 300 buses and 300 contract carriages.
