Varapuzha custodial death: S R Sreejith's post-mortem report points to torture

The death was caused by the severe infection which had affected several vital organs.

Kochi: Varapuzha native S.R. Sreejith who died while in police custody on Monday had sustained injuries which could possibly be due to police torture before death, suggests his post-mortem report.  The victim had suffered severe injuries in his private parts. His testicles had reported blood infiltration while his small intestine was on the verge of  severing. 

The death was caused by the severe infection which had affected several vital organs. There were 18 injury marks on the body which also suffered several bruises, according to the report.  It is understood that the officials of Alappuzha Medical College on Thursday handed over the post-mortem report to the special investigation team probing the case. 

Sreejith was picked up by the police on Friday evening in connection with the attack on the house of one of his neighbours.  He was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday morning after he complained of severe pain. He died the next day.
