Nirankari spiritual leader Baba Hardev Singh dies in road accident in Canada

The Chief Priest of Nirankari sect of Sikhism, Baba Hardev Singh, was killed in a car accident in Canada's Montreal on Friday.

New Delhi: The Chief Priest of Nirankari sect, Baba Hardev Singh, was killed in a car accident in Canada’s Montreal on  Friday.

“With profound pain and sorrow, this is to inform all that His Holiness Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj has merged into this Almighty God. He was travelling in a car in Canada which met with a serious accident at about 5.00 am (IST),” a statement by the Sant Nirankari mandal in Canada said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those from the political spectrum to express condolences regarding the spiritual leader’s death.

“Baba Hardev Singh’s demise is tragic & a great loss to the spiritual world. My thoughts are with his countless followers in this sad time,” Narendra Modi said in Twitter.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said in Twitter, “Nirankari Baba Shri Hardev Singh passed away in a Road accident in Montreal. Really sad to hear about his demise. Baba Hardev Singh's demise is a loss to the nation. He was doing a lot of service for the people. I have personally seen his 'Samagams'.”

 

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Deeply pained to learn of the demise of Baba Hardev Singh ji. He was a not only a spiritual leader but also a social reformer. Baba Hardev Singh's demise is a huge loss to the Nirankari Mission. May God give his followers the strength to bear the pain of this tragedy.”
