Transfer of official: Kerala government freezes Senkumar order

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to freeze the order of state police chief T.P. Senkumar to shift a junior superintendent of a confidential section at the police headquarters, giving indications that its hostility with Mr. Senkumar continues unabated.

However, Mr. Senkumar is unlikely to react or press further on the matter  to avoid a confrontation with the government while serving as the state police chief.Sources close to Mr. Senkumar said that a section of police officials was  trying to trigger an impression that Mr. Senkumar was initiating revengeful acts after taking over as SPC by winning a legal battle against the government.

Sources at the police headquarters said that the government had informed to maintain status quo and hence junior superintendent Beena Kumari would continue to serve in the confidential section T-branch.

Apart from clarifying the reasons for her removal to  chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in person on Thursday, Mr. Senkumar also gave a detailed report on the matter to home secretary Subratha Biswas.

Suppressing a petition of Koduvally MLA Karat Razack and adverse intelligence reports were cited by Mr. Senkumar  for shifting her. He also said  that the state police chief has powers to opt for officials at confidential sections.

Even the pro-LDF service organisations were also unhappy with Beena Kumari serving in the confidential section, it was learnt.

Meanwhile, sources close to Mr. Senkumar said that a section of pro-LDF officials in the police headquarters was  trying to trigger a wrong impression that Mr. Senkumar was  on a collision course with the government.

Even as Mr. Senkumar only sought the remarks from AIG headquarters Hari Shankar on a media report alleging corruption in the order issued by Mr. Loknath Behera specifying the brands of paints to be used to all police stations, a wrong information was spread that Mr. Senkumar had ordered a probe against Mr. Behera. Similarly,  the real facts for removing Beena Kumari was concealed and a misleading information was spread that Mr Senkumar  was taking revenge on her as she had earlier denied replies to a query under the RTI Act seeking copies of files related to Puttingal and Jisha murder cases that were crucial in Mr. Senkumar’s reinstatement as state police chief, police sources said.

Government sources said that it was found that Beena Kumari had forwarded the petition of the MLA to the intelligence wing soon after it was received and even sent reminders. Hence she can't be accused on suppressing the petition.
