Centre clears SSA projects worth Rs 889 crore

Thiruvananthapuram: The project approval board of the Union human resources ministry has cleared the state's projects worth Rs 889 crore under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The SSA had submitted plans worth Rs 1,460 crore.
The Union government has earmarked Rs 20 crore for the project for supporting pre-primary education started last year and Rs 115 crore for creating disabled friendly education institutions.The central government has also sanctioned money for projects in vocational higher education, physical education and assessment of educational institutions.
Another component was for reducing the gap, improving the evaluation and quality of education based on the national achievement survey. The Union government has also earmarked Rs 3.50 crore for providing solar projects for government schools. As many as 100 schools will be included in the project with Rs 3.5 lakh for each school.
A project for improving the quality of girls' education a cost of Rs 12 crore has also been sanctioned. As part of improving the education quality of Adivasis, three more hostels will be started in Kannur, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Now there are three hostels for Adivasis in the state.
