Warangal: Panchayat Raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Sunday suggested that there could be more rejigging of the the Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts once the state is done with the elections.

He said that as per the latest plan, Warangal and Hanamkonda districts may be created after the changes. Mr Rao made these comments while addressing TRS workers meeting at Ladella of Damera mandal in Parkal.

The erstwhile Warangal district has been divided into six – Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jangaon, Mahbubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu.

When district reorganisation was initiated in 2016, it was proposed to create Warangal and Hanamkonda districts. However, there was strong criticism to the idea of drawing district boundaries within the tri-cities of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet.

Following this, the idea was withdrawn and Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts were created with Warangal city as the common headquarters. There was no consensus among the three TRS MLAs in Warangal Rural as to where the district headquarters should be established.

According to Mr Dayakar Rao, the new Warangal district would be created with Warangal East constituency at its centre and Hanamkonda district would be created with Warangal West constituency at its core.

Several issues and demands were raised by the locals over the past three years over the way the districts were carved out. Giving in to the demand for a separate Mulugu district, the TRS government approved it soon after coming to power for the second time even though the party lost in the constituency.

Word was that Parkal revenue division would be included in the Bhupalpally district as per the latest developments. Downplaying these rumours, Mr Dayakar Rao on Sunday said while changes would be made to Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts, Parkal will not be included in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
