VIJAYAWADA: A criminal case was filed against five former Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioners, including Rajiv Sharma, retired Chief Secretary and adviser to the TS government.
The case against the IAS officers was filed at Governorpet police station and was with regard to a land allotment made in 1989.
Surapaneni Rama Rao, one of the founder office-bearers of the SBH Colony lodged a private case in the metropolitan court under Sections 167, 217 and 409 against the IAS officers for their inaction and named Mr Sharma as the main accused. Mr Sharma was then the municipal commissioner of Vijayawada.
According to Mr Rama Rao, the VMC allotted 1,600 sq yards of land, worth '20 crore to one Paladugu Kutumbarao in 1989. The allotment was made as compensation to the land owned by Mr Kutumbarao and given to the government to build a high school road.
The government issued GO 222 directing the VMC to allot 1,600 sq yd in Survey No. 316/78.
Mr Rama Rao alleged that contrary to the GO issued, Mr Sharma allotted land in Survey Nos. 97/76, 93/72, 179/78 that was a reserved common space in SBH and RTC Colonies.
He said he had fought the case in the High Court which had ordered the VMC to rectify the mistake.
