Coimbatore: The civic body’s helpline numbers where people can register and have civic issues resolved, sprang back to life on Wednesday, after remaining inactive for many months, thanks to the efforts of Corporation Commissioner J. Saravana Kumar.
Officials acted swiftly and solved a civic issue within an hour on Wednesday. A resident of Kavundampalayam posted a grievance on the WhatsApp helpline number, and much to his surprise, not only did he receive a reply stating that the problem will be attended to, the issue was also solved.
V. Sathish Baalaji, managing trustee of ‘Restoring Nature’ posted a grievance about a huge tree being uprooted on Bango Street in Lakshmi Nagar in ward 44 of Kavundampalayam, which falls under the North Zone of Coimbatore Corporation. “The road is about 40 feet wide and the tree came down by 12 noon, obstructing movement of vehicles. Only pedestrians were able to use the road,” he told DC. It was around 1:10 pm that the problem was posted along with photographs. In an hour’s time, with the help of men and machinery from the civic body, the tree was removed and the road cleared.
