Bengaluru: 18,000 cards in 4 days, students lap them up

The BMTC, which launched the card on July 8, has give time till September 30 to upgrade to smart cards.

BMTC sources said the management is considering offering huge discounts on bus rentals and casual contracts to ensure that their fleet does not remain idle. \"One of the action plans in front of the corporation is offering discounts to private firms and encouraging them to opt for BMTC bus rentals. Educational institutes, corporate houses are the target. The corporation has decided to use the newly bought buses for rentals to ensure that corporate companies, schools will find them attractive,\" sources said.

Bengaluru: BMTC’s recently introduced concessional smart card for students has become a big hit with students many flocking bus stands to replace their old manual passes. The BMTC, which launched the card on July 8, has give time till September 30 to upgrade to smart cards.  "In 4 days 18,000 smart cards have already been sold to students. They want to get it done even before the official August 1 date as academic year has started. Maximum crowd was at Majestic bus stand. Since it is like an Aadhaar card, it takes 15- 20 minutes for each person to get their smart card made," said Shyamla, BMTC CPRO.
