CBSE: A waste of time, money and effort

Revaluation is a window for grievance redressal for students who feel that they have been denied justice in the normal valuation for board exams in class X and XII. But does it serve its purpose? DC probes state and CBSE streams to find answers

Kozhikode: Revaluation is often a waste of time and money though many students feel that they can improve their results of class X and XII board examinations. DC tries to find out from students and teachers about the relevance of revaluation and whether it is a fair affair.

Mr M. Abdul Nazar,  treasurer,  All-Kerala CBSE Sahodaya School Complex, said that  there were many complaints from senior secondary students about revaluation.

“I believe that an accredited national agency with experience in conducting  examinations like CBSE can rectify the mistakes, if any, and ensure justice to the students,” he said.  

Education expert  N. P.  Narayanankutty  said, “scoring well in the CBSE board exams is  important  because  it is the percentage which decides the future  of the student. Small variation in marks  can make or mar their higher studies and hence  the relevance of revaluation,” he said.

Questions have been raised about  the CBSE revaluation process.  As per the official website, the candidates applying for verification of marks will  be eligible for obtaining a photocopy of the evaluated answer book and only those obtaining the same will be eligible to apply for revaluation.  In most   cases,  the marks  remain the same.  Students who hope to get  higher marks  after revaluation get disappointed, Mr Nayaranankutty  pointed out.

Aditya Nair, pursing engineering course at government engineering college,  said, “I got 89 in English and 95 in all other subjects.  I applied for revaluation in English, computer science and physics, but the marks remained the same. It’s just a waste of time and money. Only if you are very confident,  apply for revaluation,” she said.

Rahul, 11th standard student of Central School here, said, “I got 73 marks in English though  I deserved 93 (after looking into my answer sheet). 

“I applied for revaluation for 15 marks but  there was no change. It was just a waste of time,  money and effort. So try it only if there is a vast gap  between your expectations and reality,” he said.
