Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited top bidder for Kerala sandalwood

Belonging to the Marayur forest range, this is the only public auction of sandalwood authorised by the state government.

Kottayam: The Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), Bangalore, was the biggest bidder for sandalwood at an e-auction held on Wednesday. It purchased 1,732 kg for Rs 15,032,415.

Belonging to the Marayur forest range, this is the only public auction of sandalwood authorised by the state government. They are fallen or seized from thieves. 

The e-auction process began at 9.30 am and ended at 5 pm. 

Poompuhar Chennai was the second bidder purchasing 1,412 kg followed by Oushadhi Thrissur (197 kg) and TTK Devaswom Taliparamba (188.6 kg).

Till 2015, the auction had been taking place live.

More than 70 tonnes of its derivatives are on e-auction which will end on Thursday.
