Pondicherry University student selected under US programme

Puducherry: A Pondicherry University student selected under United States government sponsored Community College Initiative (CCI) programme Kowsalya Rajkumar, a 3rd-year B Sc Visual Communication student of the Pondicherry University Community College, has been selected to study media at the College of Dupage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois - USA for the academic year 2017-18 under CCI sponsored by the US State Department.
Ms Rajkumar is part of a group of 22 students selected in a competitive India-wide search to participate in the program which awards scholarships for one-year of study at a community college in America.
The Community College Initiative Programme provides opportunities for individuals from countries including Brazil, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Egypt, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Turkey, and South Africa to study in the US for a year.
Students receive training in academic English, and selected fields such as information technology, management, media, applied engineering, business, agriculture and hotel management as part of the program. The program also provides leadership training, while immersing participants in US society and cultural life. This program also enables the students to gain new, global skills and awareness that will help them contribute to the growth of their own country when they return.
According to an official press release from Pondicherry University since 2013-14 to till date about 9 students have successfully participated in this CCI program. Vice Chancellor Anisha Basheer Khan congratulated and felicitated the student.
