Nellore: TTD’s new system to make room allotment hassle-free for pilgrims caused anxiety on Wednesday following some teething problems at Tirumala hills. With a view to reduce long waiting hours in queues for accommodation, the TTD has introduced token issuing system, which came into force on Wednesday.

Some pilgrims, who assumed that they would be given rooms immediately after the registration, quarrelled with the staff manning the counters in the morning session. The situation returned to normal after officials explained them the new system.

TTD JEO K.S. Srinivasa Raju said: “This is the best system we have developed for the sake of pilgrims in the common pool of accommodation allotment. Apart from this, the incentive to the pilgrims to vacate rooms within 12 hours and 18 hours is also yielding good results.”

As per the new system, pilgrims have to register by submitting their names with details of Aadhaar card, fingerprint and valid mobile number.

After the registration process, a token will be issued, which contains registration number, name and mobile number of the pilgrim along with expected time of allotment, and SMS will be sent to the pilgrim regarding registration confirmation.

Rooms will be allotted to the pilgrim based on the registration sequence and choice of tariff, whenever room vacancy arises.

Pilgrims should invariably occupy the rooms within 30 minutes from the time of allotment or else rooms will get automatically cancelled and will be allotted to the immediate pilgrim in the sequence.
