Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala University vice-chancellor P.K. Radhakrishnan said that the crime branch probe against him ordered by the Kerala University syndicate was an act of vengeance.  He had complained to Governor P. Sathasivam who is also the chancellor of the university against the government decision to appoint people without required qualification to the syndicate.

"The present probe is on an article written in one of the weeklies after my retirement. I had only pointed out newspaper reports that suggested that third valuation of LLB papers violating the exam manual of the varsity," he said.

"The decision to send the paper for a third valuation was based on an anonymous letter. It was sent to Gujarat violating the norms. Moreover, there were reports in newspapers that a Thiruvananthapuram native who had close links with syndicate members was in charge of the third valuation in Gujarat.

"There were doubts that the decision was part of a conspiracy with the knowledge of the examination subcommittee of the syndicate. In this circumstances, I could not understand what the crime I committed by commenting on the issue was. "The crime branch probe was based on a petition by a student. Action on the complaint was within two days. This was even when the syndicate had not been able to decide on the infrastructure development using the Rs 5 crore received as chancellor's award."
