President Appoints Acting CJ to Telangana High Court
Hyderabad: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Justice Ponugoti Naveen Rao, the seniormost judge of the Telangana High Court, as its Chief Justice.
The move comes after Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was elevated as a Supreme Court judge, with Naveen Rao set to take charge as the CJ after Ujjal Bhuyan relinquishes the same.
However, consequent upon the superannuation of Justice Ponugoti Naveen Rao, which is due on Friday (July 14), the President of India appointed Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, the senior-most puisne judge of the High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Telangana, till further orders.
The Supreme Court collegium has already sent a proposal to the Union government to appoint Justice Alok Ardhe as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
