HMDA speeds up work on parking yard
However, the big job before the urban body is to convince the truckers, to utilize the new space.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is expediting construction on an alternative parking yard in Patancheru on the city’s outskirts. The existing parking lot in Moosapet was closed a few weeks ago following traffic problems on this busy stretch and a spate of accidents, more recently one in which three persons were killed. Also, with Metro Rail works on overdrive on this route, dozens of trucks moving to and fro was leading to severe convenience to the public. In view of this the parking lot has been shifted to the city’s outskirts in Bangarugadda near Patancheru.
Basic amenities including washrooms, street lights, yard lighting, borewell and halting space is being provided for trucks and crew that move between the city and Mumbai and other states. The approach road from Bangarugadda junction to the parking yard is narrow, but officials are taking steps to widen it for the free movement of heavy vehicles. According to officials, they are aiming to complete the works by September. However, the big job before the urban body is to convince the truckers, to utilize the new space. The new parking lot is nearly 20 km from the earlier one in Moosapet and hence there is a difference of opinion. Also, truckers are unhappy at the narrow approach road to the new location.
