HYDERABAD: Controversial BJP MLA T. Raja Singh of Goshamahal constituency on Sunday submitted his resignation from both MLA post as well as the party, saying that his "gau raksha" campaign may damage the reputation of the party and its leadership.  The legislator addressed his resignation letter to BJP state president Dr K. Laxman. “I will submit it to the speaker of the Telangana assembly very soon. The decision was taken after consulting my well wishers and gau raksha volunteers,” he said.

Mr Raja said he took the decision to carry forward his “gau raksha” work which may damage the image of the BJP and its leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Whenever I talk about prevention of cow slaughter or ways to prevent it, the media is targeting the party leadership at both state and central levels. To avoid damage to the image of the party because of my work, I have submitted my resignation,” he said.

Mr Raja said he would begin his “gau raksha”campaign in a day or two and warned about disturbance to the law and order and even communal violence too.  “Thousands of cattle have already been brought to the city for the Bakrid festival.  I have come to know that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, in his effort to appease minorities, is turning a blind eye to the violations,” he said.  He said he was working for the past several decades for the protection of cows and would continue to do the same.  "The police is threatening the volunteers of severe action if they hit the roads. But such threats will not work," he said.  However, BJP state president K. Laxman said neither the party nor he has received any resignation letter from the legislator  so far.
