Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi led a DMK delegation to meet the President.

THOOTHUKUDI: The DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi expressed the hope that the Central government would bring in appropriate changes mooted by the DMK in the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, passed by both houses of Parliament recently.

Reviewing the functioning of the Government medical college hospital in her constituency here on Monday, Kanimozhi said that the doctors and the other staff of the medical college hospital were discharging their duty to the patients diligently, adding, they have put forth some more demands to further enhance the services at the hospital.

Stating that her party has been opposing the NMC Bill though it was passed in both houses, she said the DMK would continue to stress its views on the NMC Bill that was brought by the BJP-led NDA government at the centre to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) Act.

Ms. Kanimozhi recalled that DMK had walked out of the Lok Sabha without voting to express their opposition to the NMC Bill, but hoped that the Centre would understand the "sentiments of the people" and bring in appropriate changes to the Bill.

Accompanied by her party colleague and Thoothukudi MLA, Geetha Jeevan, Ms. Kanimozhi also inspected the various ongoing works including the bus stand construction work being carried out in Thoothukudi city under the centrally-sponsored, smart city project.

The DMK MP also launched a tree plantation drive in memory of her father and the former Chief Minister of the State, M Karunanidhi, here.
