Hyderabad: Medical devices pose health risk

Hyderabad: A total of 1,213 cases of medical device adverse events have been reported since 2014 to the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India. The data of adverse effects of devices like stents, knee implants and hip replacements is studied to understand the reasons for adverse effects in the small group of population.
The high risk medical devices require proper monitoring stated a senior officer of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. There are 300 adverse drug reaction monitoring centres which collect data of discrepancies which will help to safeguard the right of the patient and also enable dangerous devices to be withdrawn from the market.
