MYSURU: Floods in northern and southern parts of the state will not dampen famed Dasara festivities in this city of palaces, says Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

He told the media after chairing a meeting with elected representatives and officers of the local administration that victims in flood-hit areas need not spend anxious moments as their rehabilitation and relief work would be a combined effort of the Union and state governments.

The Chief Minister also appealed to philanthropists to step forward and construct 100 houses each for victims in inundated areas. "We will name the layout after them," he added.

He, however, declined to answer a question on whether the state government plans to declared floods witnessed by the state as a national calamity.

Meanwhile, officials sources said Mr Yediyurappa will chair the high power committee on Dasara festivities in Bengaluru on August 14.
