Thiruvananthapuram: Brace for more rain, warns IMD
Bay of Bengal depression ominous for Ernakulam, Alappuzha.
Thiruvananthapuram: The central and southern districts of the state will receive heavy rainfall during the next 48 hours with a low depression forming over Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department.
“ A cyclonic circulation is evident over north-east adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal which has resulted in the formation of low pressure over north-west Bay of Bengal. After two days, the intensity of the rainfall will come down,” said K. Santhosh, IMD director.
The meteorological department has issued orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur districts on Tuesday and Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Wednesday. The state has received 1,487 mm of rain from June 1 to August 11. The IMD said coastal areas would receive very heavy rain.
The death toll in the current rain havoc in the state rose to 83 on Monday.
