Visakhapatnam: 1 dead, fire breaks out on vessel

Visakhapatnam: A massive fire broke out on a vessel on Monday leaving one dead, one missing and 13 others injured. The incident took place in the sea near Vizag.

The incident took place at around 11.45 am. The victims said that they heard a loud blast from the fuel tank and found fire spreading on the ship. Some of them jumped into the sea to save themselves.
After getting to know about the fire, the Visakhapatnam Port Trust deployed four vessels for fighting the fire. The Coast Guard alerted Ship CG-81 to carry out the rescue operation and the personnel saved those who jumped into the waters.
Two other vessels and a helicopter were also sent for the rescue operations.
At the time of the incident, there were about 29 people on board and 13 were injured. Two people went missing and one body has been recovered. The search operation is on to find the second person who had gone missing. Many of the injured persons have more than 50 per cent burns and are being treated at a private hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Udaya Bhaskar Billa said, “The search operation is on to find the other person.”
