BENGALURU: The city was under siege for most part of the day on Monday as mobs went on the rampage after Kannadigas were attacked in Tamil Nadu in retaliation for an attack on an engineering student in Bengaluru on Friday. The police failed to contain the situation though angry mobs continued torching scores of vehicles till late evening.
The police resorted to firing, which led to the death of a 25-year-old man and left two others injured, while curfew was clamped in the jurisdictions of 16 police stations in West and North Bengaluru, to bring the situation under control.
Curfew will be in force in Rajagopalanagar, Kamakshipalya, Vijaynagar, Byatarayanapura, Kengeri, Magadi Road, Rajajinagar, Raja Rajeshwarinagar, K.P. Agrahara, Chandra Layout, Yeshwanathapura, Mahalakshmi Layout, Peenya, RMC Yard, Nandini Layout and Jnanabharathi police station limits. The police believe that the situation will be under control on Tuesday as it is a public holiday.
