Bengaluru: Namma Metro suspended its services on Monday after violence broke out in the city. Protesters barged into Metro stations and forced the services to a halt in the Central Business District. Mr Vasanth Rao, CPRO, BMRCL, said, “Due to the disturbance in the city, the train service has been temporarily suspended." He, however, said that no Metro station was attacked.

Those travelling back home after work around MG Road had a tough time as the Metro cancelled its services. “I was heading home in Indiranagar after our office shut for the day around 2 pm. But I had a tough time as the Metro train services were cancelled. Later I reached home in my colleague’s car," said Nikhita Vinay, an employee of Thomas Cook.

Another Metro user, Shivek, said, “Not many autorickshaws were plying on MG Road and neither was the Metro working. Traffic cops stopped some autos that had passengers, squeezed in more people going in the same direction."

Petrol stations see long queues, put up no stock boards
Several petrol stations in the city shut their operations and put up “no stock” boards, even as vehicle drivers rushed to fill fuel to avoid any shortage due to the violence on Monday afternoon. Mr Rahul Rao, a petrol station owner, said that once the violence erupted, all the fuel stations in the city saw big queues.

“Drivers wanted to top up their tanks as they were scared that violence might lead to closure of fuel stations on Tuesday. Many petrol stations also ran out of stock," he said. As vehicles stopped moving between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the city witnessed shortage of vegetables on Monday evening.
