Hyderabad: Celebrate Bakrid, Ganesh festival peacefully, says top cop

The city police chief was speaking after participated in a flag march conducted in the old city.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said the city was peaceful and advised citizens not to believe threat messages being circulated on the social media and warned those spreading such messages of strict action. The city police chief was speaking after participated in a flag march conducted by city Police in the old city with around 3,000 personnel.

Police has made elaborate security arrangements across the city for Bakrid on Tuesday and the Ganesh immersion procession on Thursday. Around 20,000 personnel have been deployed in the city and will be on duty round the clock till the immersion proceesion concludes.

Mr Mahender Reddy appealed to people to maintain hygiene whle celebrating Bakrid. He said one lakh plastic bags had been distributed by the minority welfare department to collect waste.

“This is the first time that both festivals are coming together and people should celebrate peacefully,” he said. The festivities were being monitored at the command and control centre through CCTV cameras. Any violation will be dealt strictly,. he said.

Security personnel from the rest of Telangana, other states and from paramilitary forces have een deployed. Police has carried out anti-sabotage checks; area domination and quick reaction teams are on the ground, officials said.
