KURNOOL: On the back of continuing inflows, two gates of the Srisailam dam were lifted on Thursday morning to release 55,966 cusecs of water to Nagarjunasagar . AP minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao lifted the two gates up to 10 ft. The Srisailam dam was receiving 1,30,238 cusecs of water from both the Krishna and Tungabadhra rivers.
Water at the dam stood at 884.80 ft against the full reservoir level of 885 ft. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Rao said water was being released as per the guidelines of Central Water Commission (CWC). He said the AP government had taken special interest in resolving water scarcity in the state by connecting major rivers. Due to this, Rayalaseema had turned into ‘Jalaseema’. The people of Rayalaseema and all other districts were happy with the present rains which were bringing good inflows at all reservoirs, he said. There was no drinking or irrigation water shortage nor power crisis in the state, the minister said.
