Bengaluru: NGOs, officials survey Mallasandra Gudde Lake
This was in complete violation of the norms set up by the National Green Tribunal.
Bengaluru: Representatives from United Bengaluru and Namma Bengaluru Foundation, along with the state government officials, inspected Mallasandra Gudde lake on Friday.
They found construction activity within the 75-metre buffer zone. This was in complete violation of the norms set up by the National Green Tribunal (NGT)
The officials from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) gave the inspection a miss.
Suresh N.R., Convenor , United Bengaluru, said, “This is baffling that they missed it, but in the past they have missed Lokayukta's hearing as well. In 2015, the lake was surveyed, and today it was surveyed again.”
Santosh, Assistant Director of Land Records (Bengaluru North), said, “We have used a new device for survey. The lake is spread in 17 acre and 11 guntas. We have taken measurements and will verify this with the officials.”
The survey was conducted on Lokayukta's order and Suresh said that the hearings are currently on, based on the complaints filed to Lokayukta under the leadership of senior freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy.
