Bengaluru: AICTE plans induction programme for students
A set of 15-25 students will be assigned to a faculty member.
Bengaluru: To build a strong connect between students and members of the faculty in colleges in the country, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is planning to introduce a three-week induction programme for students enrolling into various engineering and management courses.
AICTE Chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe said that the decision was taken as the Council felt it was important to bring back an efficient and effective student-faculty connect.
“There are no classes in the first three weeks of college. A set of 15-25 students will be assigned to a faculty member. The faculty will engage with each student, starting from choosing the subjects to exercising, yoga, breakfasts, etc. The faculty member will become the trusted companion for the students. In case of any problem at the institution, students, instead of going on strikes, can speak to this faculty member for advice and suggestions. This way, students will become problem-solvers of tomorrow. Mentorship is an important aspect of new age training. Management institutions, like IFIM, are heading such initiatives, which is a growth indicator of the sector," he said, while speaking at IFIM Business School's corporate summit, Confluence, in the city.
On the role of educational institutions in engaging with millennials, Dr Atish Chattopadhyay, Director, IFIM Business School, said, "Educational institutions have the responsibility to train the young, enthusiastic generation to become future leaders. Each of us, the faculty and management, has to go beyond our roles as teachers to build a support system that students can count on. Developing holistically-trained, employable students is important. The pedagogy, therefore, should involve personality enhancement, instilling social awareness and building life skills, alongside academic upgrades."
AICTE has released a detailed guide on the Student Induction Programme planned across institutions on their official portal.
The guide states that daily activities of the programme include physical, creative arts, mentoring and universal human values, while other activities include familiarisation with college, department/branch, literary activity, proficiency modules and workshops by eminent people from the industry.
