Hyderabad: Senior TRS leader K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday said that AP Chief Minister-led Telugu Desam would be rendered irrelevant post the Lok Sabha elections next year.

He claimed that the TRS would win 16 of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state next year and said, “Today, we have proved our worth in Telangana (by winning the Assembly elections) and I am very, very confident that we will also go back to Delhi again with 16 Members of Parliament from Telangana on TRS tickets.”

He pointed out that how this situation would play out in Delhi in future, and how this number would become relevant in Parliament was something obviously to watch out for.

Replying to a question with regard to Mr Naidu’s recent meeting with JD(S) chief D. Deve Gowda, he said Mr Naidu had recently met former prime minister as part of his efforts to forge a broad anti-BJP front, while TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had met him a few months ago to pursue his proposal to promote the non-BJP, non-Congress Federal Front.

Speaking about TRS’s move on promoting a non-Congress, non-BJP front, Mr Rama Rao said, “We are not merely trying to usurp the hot seat in Delhi. We have not been trying to bring about a coalition of political parties with the agenda of assuming office in Delhi. The intent is changing the narrative in Delhi.”

He said the pople wanted improvements in health, education, electricity and infrastructure.

TRS number touches 90:
Earlier in the day, independent legislators Korukanti Chander of Ramgundam constituency and L. Ramulu Naik from the Wyra Assembly seat met Mr Rama Rao and extended their support to the ruling TRS. They said that they would soon join the TRS. With the addition of the two independent MLAs, the strength of the TRS will go up to 90 in the 119-member Assembly.
