Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has finally decided to clean Durgam Cheruvu after dead fish were found at all corners of the lake.

HMWS&SB officials said that all the manholes near the lake were cleaned and a sewage pipeline that was choked has also been cleared. According to officials, sewage from the choked line had entered the lake and polluted it.

Experts maintained that because of the heavily polluted water, the dissolved oxygen levels in Durgam Cheruvu had decreased drastically and the fish had died. However, this contention was opposed by HMWS&SB officials, who insisted that the fish did not die because of sewage.

“We will take up the work to prevent dirty water from entering the lake on Thursday,” said P. Kumar HMWS&SB general manager, who visited the lake on Wednesday.
