Hyderabad: Chinese manja, also known as tangus manja, was banned by the Indian government but in parts of Hyderabad, it’s still on sale.

Dhoolpet merchants had stopped sales but in other areas such as Nacharam, Moula-Ali, Uppal, Addagutta, Ramkote, Chappal Bazaar, Musheerabad, Hussainialam, and Charminar, the deadly item continues to be sold.

C. Srinivas, a forest officer from the anti-poaching squad said that on Friday, teams had seized 95 kg of Chinese manja from multiple locations in the city. “It’s disturbing. Vendors are selling the material despite several warnings. So far, there have been no cases of injuries due to this manja — to humans or animals. But we are waiting for the final report as many are set to fly kites on January 14,” Mr Srinivas said.
