Hyderabad: Transport minister P. Mahender Reddy on Friday unveiled the logo and posters of “RASTA,” — Roads Are Safe to All — the new road safety campaign by Telangana government. The road safety week will be observed across the country from January 17 to 22.

Earlier, the programme was given the named SAFAR – Safety Always for All Roads. The Telangana transport officers’ association sent proposals to the government to change the name with a native brand. Considering their proposals and recommendations, the government finalised RASTA.

Speaking at a press conference, the minister said that the government’s aim was to achieve an accident-free Telangana state. “India has one per cent of vehicles of the entire world but 10 per cent of accidents of the world are taking place in the country every year. About 1.5 lakh deaths are taking place every year in the country of which 7,000 are from Telangana. Last year, Cyberabad stood top with 1,125 road accidents followed by Mahbubnagar and Medak districts. This time we are concentrating on accident-prone areas and black spots while taking up  awareness programmes,” he said.
