Salem: The Chief Minister, Mr Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday announced that state-of-the-art bus terminals would be established in Coimbatore, Salem and Madurai with the Central government sanctioning these proposals recently.
Speaking at a function to lay the foundation stone for a road over-bridge at Irumbaalai near here on the Salem-Bengaluru NH with outlay of Rs 21.97 crore, he said, “the Union minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari has approved setting up mega bus terminals in these three cities with modern facilities. The sites would be selected soon and a Central panel will finalise the sites after inspection. Steps are also on to begin flight services from Salem.”

Stating that former Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa had sanctioned the construction of various road over-bridges in Salem district, including at five corner junction, Kucrangu Chavadi, Sevvaipettai, Mulluvadi and Manalmedu, he said these projects at a total of '320 crore were being completed as per schedule. The Centre has also approved a 21-km bypass road from Mallur to Arabickalluri, he added.  

Mr. Palaniswami, who on the occasion unveiled a plaque to inaugurate a '1 crore memorial at Mettur to commemorate the publication in the gazette of the Cauvery tribunal's final award in 2013, besides a renovated part at Mettur dam at a cost of Rs 10.72 crore, also laid the foundation stone for various development works to the tune of '31 crore.  

Later, he took part in a function in Edappadi, where he launched 16 completed development works at a cost of Rs 12.74 crore and also laid foundation stones for six new development projects with an outlay of Rs 25.55 crore. He distributed Rs 12.28 crore worth welfare schemes to 1,727 beneficiaries, besides opening the newly constructed 'Amma park' and 'Amma gym' at Velliraveli. Salem district collector Ms. Rohini Bhajubhakare and other officials took part in the functions.
