Sankranti rose carnival begins in Vijayawada
The idea of the festival was initiated by the rose society of Andhra Pradesh which reflects their interest in horticulture.
VIJAYAWADA: Roses are all set to entertain the city for four days—from Saturday to Tuesday at Rose Garden in Abhudaya college and is being organised by rose society of Andhra Pradesh and Haritha Priya plant lovers society with the support of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The rose garden is the most reputed of the exquisite 6,000 plants with 600 verities of rose on exhibition. As a part of the rose fest, the organisers are arranging Gangireddu Vinyasalu and Haridasu Keertanalu at the fest premises to entertain viewers on the eve of Sankranti. The rare varieties of rose like valentine rose, iceberg rose, gladiator rose and so on are on displayed.
J. Nivas, municipal commissioner, inaugurated the rose fest on Saturday. He said that it’s a good step for Andhra Pradesh as it will be a promotion for tourism.
He praised that the 36th national rose fest had been given permission by the national rose society, impressed by the services and development of the rose society.
The idea of the festival was planned by rose society of Andhra Pradesh, thereby reflecting their interest in horticulture and gardening. With the help of 130 members, the society planted 6,000 rose plants in 2 acre of land. For the last two years, the rose society of Andhra Pradesh has been conducting the fest.
“Pack up for the next gala event at Vijayawada and make sure you visit the carnival. We are expecting 25,000 people across the city for the rose fest. Several plants like Marigold, Dahlia, Jasmine, Hibiscus, Chrysanthemum, Daisy, Lily, Jerebera, Orchid, Crossandra and Boganvillie,” said Totakuri Akhilandeswari Rani, President of Rose Society of Andhra Pradesh. “Rose festival is a haven for rose lovers and horticulture is growing fast in Vijayawada and Guntur. To encourage horticulture and organic products we are exhibiting most verities like bonsai, fruits and organic fertilisers,” said Kosaraju Vijaya Babu, treasurer of the RSAP.
“We are showcasing a variety of food items like Korru payasam, Wada, Gare, Cutlet, Pulav and other varieties with Millets in this food fest which is very important for our health. To encourage and educate city people about their health we are displaying a variety of recipes with millets,” said G. Padmaja, a cooking teacher.
