Agrees to the project if Telangana gets 1,600 tmc feet of Godavari water.

Vijayawada: Former Minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao and Andhra Pradesh Farmers’ Federation president Yerneni Nagendranath proposed  low-cost and easily viable proposals on diverting River Godavari water to Krishna Delta region as well as Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut and Krishna water to Rayalaseema region. In a press conference here on Monday, the farmer leaders said a three-step plan should be implemented to cover the ayucuts of Krishna delta, Nagarjuna Sagar Right main canal and Rayalaseema region.

In the first phase, the capacity of Polavarm right main canal (PRMC) which will be used to divert Godavari surplus water to Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada,  should be enhanced to 27,000 cusecs and divert water at 130 km to Eluru and Ryves canals to irrigate 4.5 lakh acres in Krishna delta. In the second step, the remaining water in River Krishna can be lifted to Pulichintala reservior,  87 km away from Prakasam barrage.

The difference of Full Reservoir Level (FRL) between Prakasam barrage and Pulichintala is just 38 mts and they proposed two road-cum-barrages should be constructed on River Krishna and one of them can be linked to the new capital city, Amaravati. In the third step, around 10,000 cusecs of Pulichintala back waters  should be lifted into Nagarjuna Sagar Project Right Main Canal (NSPRMC) at 69 km which is 32 km away to Pulichintala back water area. The lift height would be 90 mts only.

“Chintalapudi LI scheme will fulfill the need of ayacut under Nagarjunasagar Left Main Canal (NSPLMC).” So irrigation water needs of all areas will be fulfilled with this plan farmer leader’s said.
