Hyderabad: A group of youths attacked AAP leader Somnath Bharti at the RGI Airport on Sunday. The incident happened when Somnath was heading towards his vehicle. The youths started abusing him and AAP workers. One party worker was injured in the scuffle. Senior AAP leader and Delhi MLA Somnath Bharti who is also the South India in-charge of AAP was on way to Hyderabad to address a gathering on Monday. He landed at RGIA at around 11.30 pm. Some activists were waiting for him in three vehicles in the arrival area. Meanwhile, some youths who were in another car started honking continuously. “As soon as I sat in the vehicle they attacked my vehicle. I appeal to the Telangana police to inquire into the incident,” Somnath said.

AAP activists said a person from the car got down and started shouting abuses, but security personnel just kept watching. “He took out an iron rod, broke the rear lamps of the vehicle and headed towards Somnath, but we covered him. He attacked me injuring my hands, ribs and chest,” AAP TS joint secretary Hyder Abbas said.

AAP's TS secretary Srisailam said they are still clueless about the attackers. “They shouted Go back to Delhi. They could have been motivated by some right wing groups,” he said. Mr Srisailam said they will file a complaint on Tuesday. “Though the complaint is delayed we are confident CCTV footage will prove it,” he said. Airport police said that they did not receive any complaint from AAP activists. But a woman passenger who did not want to be named informed us that AAP activists were making noise by honking loudly.  A GD entry of the same was made at the police station," RGIA inspector M. Mahesh said.
