Chennai rowdy Binu pleads for mercy
Police said that Binu surrendered at the office of Ambattur Deputy Commissioner, Sarvesh Raj around 9 am on Tuesday.
Chennai: Almost a week after the police gatecrashed into his birthday party and arrested as many as 75 rowdies who had gathered at a lorry shed in the city outskirts, gangster Binu Pappachan surrendered to the City Police on Tuesday.
In an 82-second video released by the police after his surrender, the 50-year-old pleads for forgiveness and claimed that he is not as menacing a rowdy as he is made out to be.
I was born and brought up here in Choolaimedu. Now, I am 50 years old and I am diabetic. I had my share of jail time already due to my rowdyism in my earlier days. I want to be away from all these. Hence, I went underground and was living in Karur for the past three years, Binu says in the video.
Binu claims that only his younger brother knew he was staying in Karur and it was he who invited him to come to Chennai to celebrate his 50th birth-
day.
When I arrived, I was shocked to see the others gathered and even asked my brother if all that was necessary. Our idea was to leave immediately, but we were rounded up by the police. Though I managed to escape, I couldn't run any further and hence I am surrendering, Binu said adding that, I am not a menacing rowdy as I am made out to be.
Police said that Binu surrendered at the office of Ambattur Deputy Commissioner, Sarvesh Raj around 9 am on Tuesday. He was then taken to the Mangadu police station for further enquiry as the birthday celebrations were held in that jurisdiction.
The who’s who of the gangsters in the city had gathered on the night of February 6 to celebrate the 50th birthday of Binu. The celebrations topped off in filmy gangster style with the rowdies trying to cut cakes with sickles at a lorry shed in the City outskirts near Poonamalee. As many as 75 rowdies were rounded up by police that night. Police also seized 15 motorbikes, 7 cars and 88 mobile phones from the men.
