Maha Sangamam to link all rivers in AP, says Chandrababu Naidu
He alleged that the PM Modi-led NDA government was sanctioning agricultural aid to only a few selected farmers which was severely objectionable.
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that inspired with the linking of Krishna and Godavari rivers, the TD government started Maha Sangamam of linking all rivers in the State. He was speaking while laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new barrage with 10 tmc ft water storage capacity on the Krishna river at Vykuntapuram of Guntur district on Wednesday.
Mr Naidu said that the then Chief Minister of united AP State Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Prakasam Barrage on February 13, 1954 which created history and now on the same day, a new history was being created by laying the foundation stone for construction of a new barrage.
Reeling out welfare schemes of the TD government, he said that he worked hard for the past five years and asked the public to work for the next 75 days to bring back him into power. Mr Naidu said that the barrage would be constructed on the model of a Kuchipudi dance which would reveal the rich Kuchipudi dance culture to the world. He said that the Pulichintala project barrage constructed in the upland area which was 62 km away from the new barrage and 12 km away from Prakasam Barrage in the lower area would increase the water storing capacity between these barrages.
He added that Vykuntapuram and adjacent areas would be developed as spiritual tourism centres because of the presence of the ancient Amareswara temple at old Amaravati, Venkateswara temple at Vykuntapuram and Amaravati in the future.
He said the the AP government was giving top priority to interlink Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Godavari, Krishna and Penna rivers with 140 small rivers and tributaries to prevent drinking and irrigation water shortage. He said that 65 per cent of works were completed in the Polavaram project and it would be up and running by December 2019. Mr Naidu announced that the TD government aimed to resolve all the problems of the farmers by offering Rs 25,000 per acre per annum in the coming years if the financial position of AP State allowed. He said that presently the TD government would pay Rs 10,000 per farmer under the Annadata-Sukhibhava scheme. Mr Naidu formally conducted the foundation stone laying programme for 30 projects in the second edition of Happy Cities Summit 2019 at Vijayawada on Wednesday in the span of a few minutes.
