Puducherry: Police seized 600 casseroles taken without proper documents in a vehicle near Kalapet, Puducherry, on Sunday.
Police suspect they were brought here for distribution to voters. According to officials, a mini vehicle coming from Chennai to Puducherry was intercepted on suspicion during a check near the border of Kanagachettikulam.
The driver was questioned but he gave contradictory answers and was taken to Kalapet police station for further enquiry. “After loading the box from Chennai instructions were given to the driver over phone to unload the goods in a shop at Puducherry . He didn’t know further details,” said S. Ilango, sub-inspector of Kalapet police station.
Checks in border areas have been tightened after the model code of conduct came into force, he added. Total worth of the consignment is approximately Rs 1.5 lakh and the seized ‘hot boxes’ were kept at Kalapet police station, said police officers. District election officer and district collector Dr S. Sundaravadivelu also reached Kalapet station and questioned the person.
