Nellore: Officials told to store water for next 3 months
The collector said NSP chief engineer agreed to release 2.1 tmc.ft of water to Prakasam district.
Nellore: District Collector of Prakasam District V. Vinay Chand directed officials concerned to take measures to fill the summer storage tanks in eight vivic bodies and 290 notified drinking water tanks with water being released through Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) canal. During a review with officials of NSP canal, RWS, municipal commissioners and irrigation engineers at Ongole on Tuesday, the collector said NSP chief engineer agreed to release 2.1 tmc.ft of water to Prakasam district to address the needs of summer demand during the next three months.
He underlined the need to maintain 800 cusecs release to Addanki branch canal and 1,600 cusecs to Ongole branch canal and 1.25 tmc.ft to Ramatheerdham tank. The collector reminded that Ongole, Kandukur and Kanigiri towns depend on Ramatheerdham reservoir for water. He called for special attention on water management at the summer storage tank in Ongole to quench the thirst of the denizens of Ongole city during summer. The water from NSP canal will be released for 10 days starting from March 16 and officials should take measures necessary to prevent misuse, the collector asserted.
