UP bypoll results: Workers celebrate as Samajwadi Party heads towards victory
Samajwadi Party workers started playing with colours and raised slogans hailing the SP-BSP alliance.
Lucknow: With trends favouring Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha bypoll, party workers and leaders have already started celebrating their victory. On the other hand, a sense of gloom and shock seems to have descended on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
SP's lead on the Phulpur seat right from the start of the counting on Wednesday prompted early celebrations by party workers.
By noon, the SP candidate from Gorakhpur also started taking lead in the seat adding to further jubilation among party workers.
Little after noon, Samajwadi Party workers started playing with colours and raised slogans hailing the SP-BSP alliance like "Bua-Bhatija Zindabad (hail aunt-nephew) and "Jai Akhilesh" (hail Akhilesh).
At around 3 pm, Samajwadi Party candidate Praveen Kumar Nishad from Gorakhpur was leading by 28,737 votes with 2,93,153 votes, BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla second with 2,64,416 votes after 19th round of counting.
Samajwadi Party candidate from Phulpur Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel was leading by 29,474 with 2,18,963 votes, BJP's Kaushlendra Singh Patel second with 1,89,489 votes after 20th round of counting.
