Congress mulls fielding Digvijay Singh, Kamal Nath’s son, Jyotiraditya Scindia’s wife

Bhopal: Congress was mulling to field former chief minister Digvijay Singh, AICC general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia’s wife Priyadarshini and chief minister Kamal Nath’s son Nakul as party candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh.

A senior party leader disclosed to this newspaper on Wednesday that their candidatures have been recommended by Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) of Congress to Central Election Committee (CEC) for clearance.

Of the total 29 parliamentary constituencies, single names have been recommended each in half-a-dozen parliamentary constituencies by the PEC to the CEC for consideration.

While Mr Singh has been recommended for Rajgarh parliamentary constituency, Ms Priyadarshini and Mr Nath have been projected as party candidates in Gwalior and Chhindwara LS seats respectively, he added.

Mr Nath was set to contest in Chhindwara LS seat, currently held by his father, chief minister Kamal Nath.

Similarly, Mr Scindia has been re-nominated for Guna seat, while sitting MP Kantilal Bhuria has been re-nominated for Ratlam constituency by the Pradesh Election Committee.

Similarly, All India Congress Committee legal cell chairman Vivek Tankha was recommended for Jabalpur.

Sources said the chief minister has shot down demands by at least three party MLAs to contest in the ensuing parliamentary elections, considering that the party was running a minority government in the state with outside support of two BSP MLAs, one SP legislator and four Independents.
