Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena activists from all over the state are expected to sit on a hunger strike on Friday, demanding special category status. There are indications that the workers may resort to an indefinite hunger strike.

“The Centre has denied Andhra Pradesh special category status which was promised in Parlia-ment. That’s why we have decided to register our protest on the birth anniversary of architect of Indi-an Constitution Dr B.R. Ambedkar on April 14. Government in a way has denied us the constitutional right,” said Jana Sena leader J. Satish.

In the city, more than 100 volunteers will be sitting on hunger strike at the Mahatma Gandhi statue opposite the GVMC office building. Mr Satish added that it was shame that Telugu Desam MPs from the state did not participate in the discussion that took place in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday for special category status whereas Telangana MPs supported the Andhra Pradesh cause.
