The downpour not only surprised the residents in those areas, but also triggered panic.
OOTY: Overnight heavy rains on Thursday pounded the hills as Kotagiri and Geddai recording 83 mm of rainfall each. Rains have brought hopes for better yielding in tea gardens.
While it is the Ooty limits that generally get sharp and good showers in early summer, the reverse was the case on Thursday night as heavy rains that began shortly before mid-night pounded the Kotagiri, Coonoor and Kundah slopes. The downpour not only surprised the residents in those areas, but also triggered panic, as the thunder showers continued to lash across these areas in the dark hours.
The heavy rains in the tea plantations rich Kotagiri, Coonoor and Kundah areas is believed to be very helpful for the tea gardens to rejuvenate and to trigger good growth in tea bushes for good yielding.
