Boy injured in petrol bomb attack dead
Quick thinking helps police nab moneylender who threw the explosive
Hyderabad: R. Ravi, a Class V student who suffered 75 per cent burns when a moneylender threw a petrol bomb at this grandfather on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The intended victim, Yadagiri, received minor injuries in the attack.
Police using some quick thinking, meanwhile, has arrested the moneylender, E. Shyam, and his wife Lalita, for the attack.
Police said that Shyam had borrowed an idea from the movie Dhrushyam, based on a loan shark who attempts to murder the elderly man who owed him money, to attack Yadagiri. He cooked up evidence to show that he was not in the city at that time.
Shyam threw the petrol bomb at Yadagiri and Arun while they were sleeping outside their house in Banjaranagar in Borabanda.
Yadagiri sustained minor injuries on his hands and legs while Arun received 75 per cent burns. Police said Yadagiri had borrowed '8 lakh from Shyam and was not able to repay it on time.
A relative said Shyam locked the door of their house, preventing the family from going to the rescue of Yadagiri and Ravi. The family immediately lodged a police complaint.
A police team sent to Shyam’s residence after the incident and he was found missing. Upon interrogating his wife, E. Lalita, it was found that he had gone to Mumbai on May 8. But the officials could smell petrol and kerosene, sources said.
Not having enough evidence at that time, they left the place after telling her to sent her husband to the police station when he returned.
SR Nagar police inspector Mohd Waheeduddin said, “When Shyam came to the police station, he showed us the train tickets. We noticed that the signature by the Train Ticket Examiner was the same on both the tickets, which is highly unlikely. Officials asked him to write something on a paper and found out that his handwriting was a match with that of the TTE’s signature.”
Police noticed he had small blisters over his hand, which confirmed to the police that he was the the one who threw the petrol bomb.
Police booked a case under IPC Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) and 302 (murder) and took him and his wife Lalita ,into custody and sent them to judicial remand.
