B.S.Yeddyurappa: Ready to smoke peace pipe with K.S. Eshwarappa
The state to assess the drought and interact with the people on the government's performance, has, however, not received a positive response
Bengaluru: In a peace offering of sorts, state BJP chief B.S.Yeddyurappa has decided to invite his long time rival, K.S. Eshwarappa to join his tour of drought-hit districts from May 18. But the veteran leader, who has become a voice of the disenchanted in the party, is likely to boycott the official tour and go on his own tour of Vijayapura, Raichuru and Gulbarga between May 15 and 18, according to sources. As leader of the Opposition in the council, he can embark on a state tour to evaluate the government’s performance and the developmental work it is carrying out, they explain.
Meanwhile, Mr Yeddyurappa told reporters on the sidelines of an event to release a book on the failures of the Congress government, that he was ready to make truce with Mr Eshwarappa and even meet him to sort out their differences. The BJP chief, who said he hoped to meet Mr Eshwarappa before setting out for his 35-day tour of the state to assess the drought and interact with the people on the government’s performance, has, however, not received a positive response, according to sources.
Miffed by the fact that no attempt was made by party leaders to sort out the anomalies in appointment of office bearers before May 10 and Mr Yeddyurappa’s failure to convene a coordination committee meeting, Mr. Eshwarappa has decided to ignore the Lingayat strongman’s overtures and go on a separate tour of drought-hit districts, accordigng to sources.
