Hyderabad: Out of control SUV kills biker

Vehicle injures 4 road-users, damages six vehicles at Madhapur.

Hyderabad: A rash driver lost control over his SUV and hit and ran over a two-wheeler rider, killing him on the spot, and injuring four others at Madhapur on Saturday.

In a wild run for about 200 metres, the SUV also damaged two other cars and four two-wheelers before it came to a halt. 

The SUV driver, Avirineni Basanth Kum-ar, assistant manager with East Coast Logistics Private Limited, was detained by locals and handed over to the police.

Police said Avirineni Basanth Kumar, assistant manager in a private company, was not drunk when he lost control of the vehicle in the midst of traffic.
 

Police said Kumar was not drunk, and the accident was the result of rash driving.

A police official said Kumar, 42, was driving a Mahindra Scorpio (AP25 AC 4789) towards Jubilee Hills from Madhapur.

When he reached the Vamsiram Builders Junction, he lost control over the SUV which rammed into other vehicles on the road.

Vemuri Ramakrishna, who was riding on a scooter, was hit by the SUV and killed on the spot. His scooter was completely damaged.

Police said Ramakrishna, 55, a native of West Godavari district in AP, was working for a private printing press and was a resident of Gandhinagar near RTC crossroads.

The other road users who were injured when the SUV ran amok were identified as private company employee Shankar, 32, government employee Fakru Bose, 37, merchant Shaik Sule Basha, 28, and car driver Shankar, 27.

They were rushed to a nearby private hospital and their condition is said to be critical. Madhapur sub-inspector K. Manmadha Rao said that the incident occurred due to rash driving.

Locals caught Kumar and handed him to the police when he tried to escape from the spot. 

“Srinivas was not drunk at the time of the accident. The accident was the purely the result of his driving at high speed.” Mr Manmadha Rao said.

A case of causing death due to negligence and causing injuries was registered against Basanth Kumar and he was detained.
