2 held for carting liquor near Ooty

Ooty: The Pandalur police on Saturday night intercepted a jeep during a vehicle check in Nilakottai area in Pandalur limits on Nilgiris border with Kerala. The cops found that five liters of illicit liquor was being carted in the jeep.Police said two persons allegedly involved in the illicit distillation and bid to smuggle out the liquor, Johnson, 55, and Sundaralingam, 43, were arrested in this connection and remanded to judicial custody.
LOCAL HOLIDAY:
The Nilgiris district administration has, meanwhile, declared a local holiday on Friday (May 17) in connection with the five-day annual flower show to be inaugurated in beautiful Ooty town on Friday morning.
Nilgiris collector Dr J Innocent Divya said that all state govt offices and educational institutions in the dist will remain closed on May 17. The district treasury and sub-treasuries would function with skeletal staff and in lieu of this holiday, Saturday, June 1, will be a working day.
