Hyderabad: Sleuths seize cotton seeds worth Rs 8.4 lakh

They have been identified as Ravula Rajanikanth, 48, managing director of Omkar SeedTech Pvt Ltd and Banadari Mahesh, 23, auto trolley driver.

Hyderabad: The North Zone Task Force police along with agriculture department officials seized about half a tonne of unauthorised herbicide-tolerant cotton seeds that was being transported from Ahmedabad by road to the city on Monday.

The cops arrested Bharath Kumar Prabhudas Patel while sending the seeds to his agent Sunil Agarwal of Adilabad through a transport agency. Police seized 24 plastic bags of unauthorised cotton seeds weighing around 522 kg and worth about Rs 8.4 lakh.

Task Force, North, inspector K. Nageswar Rao said the police intercepted the lorry carrying the seeds based on prior information at Begumpet.

He said the seeds were packed into 1,160 packets without any invoice or delivery challan.

The inspector said Patel was buying the seeds at Rs 500 per 450 grams and selling them at Rs 730. The Task Force handed over Patel and the seized material to the Begumpet police.
