Telangana: Business-friendly initiatives take state to No.2 rank
Last year, Andhra Pradesh was placed 2nd and Telangana at 13th position in the final rankings.
Hyderabad: Telangana state has climbed 11 places in the Centre’s preliminary rankings for adopting business-friendly initiatives, while the ranking for Andhra Pradesh fell 17 places.
However, the states will have time till June 15 to improve their position since the final rankings would be given with the help of World Bank in July. Last year, Andhra Pradesh was placed 2nd and TS at 13th position in the final rankings.
However, Telangana jumped to 2nd rank and AP fell to 19th rank this year in preliminary rankings released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion on business reforms and action plans.
States and union territories were asked to upload the status of completed reforms by June 15. After that the DIPP and World Bank will come out with the final rankings.
This year, the commerce and industry ministry is evaluating the states on real time basis. The evaluation is being done based on 340 parameters as against 91 last year. Bihar stood at the first place.
These rankings are dynamic and may change on the basis of initiatives taken by states and union territories in the next two days.
“Results may change frequently during this process. Final results will be available once the process is complete,” DIPP said.
To improve the business environment in the country, the Centre started the practice of ranking states on their business-friendly initiatives last year.
Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have secured third, fourth and fifth ranks respectively. Gujarat was ranked first on the ease of doing business index prepared by the World Bank last year but at present it is at sixth position.
As of now, 16 states have provided details about reform measures initiated by them through the DIPP-managed portal. Among them, Bihar has given information on as many as 29 reforms, the highest among the 16 states.
The rankings are likely to change the moment other states report their respective reforms. Many states have reported about 200-plus reforms but so far maximum reforms have been verified for Bihar.
